Australia star David Warner could land in hot water after venting his frustration at the umpire’s decision during the World Cup clash against Sri Lanka on Tuesday (October 14).

The left-handed batsman looked in stunning touch as he began his innings by scoring 10 runs including a huge six in the very first over. However, his promising knock came to an end soon after he was given out lbw by the on-field umpire.

On the first ball of the fourth over, left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka trapped him in front of the wicket and appealed for a lbw. The umpire did not have any hesitation in raising his finger. However, David Warner was not at all impressed with the decision and reviewed it straight away. It did look like the ball would miss the stumps due to height and was also looking like sliding down the leg due to the angle.

But the third umpire adjudged it an umpire’s call and David Warner had no option but to walk back. The southpaw was furious with the turn of events and did not shy away from venting his frustration. He was seen turning back and shouting at on-field umpire Joel Wilson while making his way back to the pavilion. In case, Wilson had adjudged it a not-out, David Warner would have survived and perhaps that was why he was so angry.

Simon Doull urges ICC to take action against David Warner:

With David Warner not shying away from venting his frustration at the umpire, former cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull has urged the ICC to take action against the Australia star. The former New Zealand pacer stated that the opener should get sanctioned by the ICC for swearing at the umpire.

“David Warner will lose some match fee. If he doesn’t then there’s something wrong. The way he turned back and swore at Joel Wilson is… there’s got to be some match fee gone there. This sort of stuff really bugs me. It’s given out, it’s clipping the stumps.

“The next time David Warner is fielding, he attempts a run-out and the ball just clips the stumps, the bail falls out, will he go to the batter and say ‘sorry mate, come back? It’s just clipping’. If the ball hits the stumps, it’s out.

“Don’t swear at the umpire. He is looking at it in real time. When I looked at it live, I thought yeah close shout. The umpire is looking at it one time and making the decision. And in the end, his decision proved to be right. It wasn’t a bad decision, it wasn’t wrong,” he said on Cricbuzz.

Talking about the game, Australia beat Sri Lanka by five wickets to open their account in the World Cup. After bowling out Sri Lanka for 209, Australia recovered from a poor start to chase down the total comfortably in the end.
