David Warner, who recently signed a two-year contract to play for Sydney Thunder in the BBL, has requested that Cricket Australia speak with him about having his lifetime ban from holding any captaincy role lifted.

Along with Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft, Warner received the maximum punishment of the three players involved in the ball-tampering incident during Australia’s 2018 match against South Africa in Cape Town. Warner was barred from holding any position of authority in Australian cricket for the remainder of his playing career.

To allow Warner to skipper at least in the BBL, there is rising sentiment in the game that the ruling must be overturned. After Usman Khawaja joined Brisbane Heat, the Thunder will need a new captain for the 2022–23 season.

Warner stated on Sunday that “it has not been brought to the table.” “It is up to the board to reach out to me and open their doors, as I have indicated many times off the record. Then I can sit down with them and speak openly with them.”

“The board has changed since 2018 when all of those sanctions were imposed. It would be wonderful to speak with them and see where we stand.”

David Warner believes he can play a leadership role:

Warner is confident in his ability to lead, regardless of whether he is allowed to captain Australia’s cricket team once more.

He claimed, “I have gained the experience, and even without a title, I am a leader on the side.” “Giving back is what I am all about, so if they [younger players] want to pick my brain in any manner, my phone is always there, they have my number, and they can come and see me at the practice facilities.”

In the 2018 ball-tampering incident against South Africa in Cape Town, Warner received the maximum punishment of the three players.
