"No Thanks" - David Warner's Response To Fan's Suggestion That He Should Captain Sunrisers Hyderabad In Next IPL

Australian batsman, David Warner had a blunt response to a fan after the latter recommended that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) should try and have Tom Moody as the head coach and Warner as the captain for next year’s IPL.

Warner’s falling out with the SRH management is quite well known. He has been treated quite poorly despite being their best player and perhaps one of the most consistent overseas players in the IPL ever.

As a result, he is well and truly done with the franchise. Although there has been no official confirmation, Warner is expected to enter the IPL 2022 mega auction in a bid to move on from SRH. This was confirmed when Warner responded to a comment on Instagram.

A fan claimed that SRH should be looking to retain Warner and keep him as the captain while having Moody be the head coach to which Warner simply said: “No thanks”.

With David Warner gone, SRH eye Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan

The SRH franchise has its eyes set on retaining Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan as their two overseas players. They need a good outing in the auction in order to turn around their terrible IPL 2021 season where they finished at the bottom.

Without Warner, it seems like a tough ask as he was their batting mainstay when they won the IPL 2016 season. He is also the only player in IPL history to win the Orange Cap three times.

As for the IPL 2022 season, two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad – have been added and the number of matches is set to increase. The retention rules for the other eight franchises dictate that each team can keep two Indians and two overseas or three Indians and one overseas player.
