Delhi Capitals (DC) have come into a spot of bother with the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 around the corner. From being at the top of the table to struggling to make it into the top four, the Axar Patel-led side has faced a massive downfall in the second phase of the league.
Their road to qualification became even tougher after their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got washed out due to rain. The 55th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday (5th May).
Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals game gets washed out
Sunrisers Hyderabad were eliminated from the IPL 2025 as their game against Delhi Capitals was washed out due to rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Not only were they eliminated, but they also made things tough for DC in terms of qualification.
Asked to bat, Delhi Capitals (DC) had a forgettable start to their innings as Karun Nair got out on the first ball, and it opened the floodgates. Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers, in particular Pat Cummins, were all over the opposition as he picked three wickets in a powerplay that left Delhi tottering at 29 for five.
Soon after that, Vipraj Nigam (18), who looked good with the bat and was playing a rescue role, got out as well as Delhi Capitals (DC) lost their sixth wicket for 62 runs. They were under massive pressure, and it seemed that they would get all out under 100.
However, after that, Tristan Stubbs (41) and Ashutosh Sharma (41) brought their team back into the game with their 66-run stand. They soaked in all the pressure, and their partnership powered Delhi Capitals to 133 for seven. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins bagged three wickets.
The second innings was interrupted by rain, as not a single ball was possible. The game got washed out, and Hyderabad was eliminated from the tournament.
Here's how the Delhi Capitals (DC) can qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs
After the washout against SRH, they got one point, and they are now placed 5th on the points table with 13 points to their name from 11 games. The Axar Patel-led side has won 6 games and now needs to up their ante.
Delhi Capitals are still in contention for the playoffs. They now have three games remaining, and to qualify, they need to win two games to reach the 16-point mark. Three wins will definitely ensure them the place, but more than one loss will dent their chances.
If they win just one game out of their three games, then they will be at 15 points. They will still have a chance to qualify, but it will all depend on the NRR and the results of other games.
Next three matches of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals (DC) will be next seen in action when they take on Punjab Kings on 8th May at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. After that, they will take on the Gujarat Titans at home on 11th May. They will end the league stage against the Mumbai Indians on 15th May at Wankhede Stadium.
