Delhi Capitals (DC) have kept themselves alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Their win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday (14th May) has kept them in the hunt for the playoffs of the league mathematically.
Delhi Capitals had a great outing in the 64th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The match between the two teams took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (14th May).
They were exceptional with the bat as they posted a big total of 208 runs on the board. Even though they lost Jake Fraser-McGurk early but after that Abishek Porel (58) and Shai Hope (38) brought the team back into the game which took the momentum away from the Lucknow Super Giants.
Rishabh Pant (33) and Tristan Stubbs (57*) in the end what they did best and took the attack to the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers. Based on their effort with the bat, Delhi Capitals posted a total of 208 runs on the board at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
With the ball, it was Ishant Sharma's show early on. The fast bowler ran through the top order of Lucknow Super Giants. The lanky pacer removed KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Deepak Hooda early to jolt the opposition.
Delhi Capitals took control of the game as they had Lucknow Super Giants tottering at 71/5. Nicholas Pooran (61) gave a real scare to the opposition with his brutal half-century but they removed him at the crucial juncture of the game. However, tension didn't stop for them here only.
Arshad Khan (58*) slammed a magnificent half-century in the end and kept his team in the hunt. But Delhi Capitals bowlers held their nerves and closed the game completely to win by 17 runs and keep themselves alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Delhi Capitals Qualification Scenario for IPL 2024 Playoffs
Delhi Capitals have played all their games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have done what was in their hands and now all they have to do is wait. In the 14 games they have 7 wins and 7 losses and have a negative NRR of -0.377 and are 5th on the points table.
To qualify for the playoffs, Delhi Capitals need some of the results to go their way. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have locked the spot in the top 4. Therefore there are just two spots for grabs and mathematically 5 teams are in contention.
For Delhi Capitals to qualify, they would need Sunrisers Hyderabad to lose both of their remaining games by at least 100 runs. After that, they would need Royal Challengers Bengaluru to beat Chennai Super Kings. This would help them pip SRH on NRR and take the spot in playoffs. Their chances look very less but with the way things have been happening, anything can happen in the league.
