Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was all praises for his teammates' valiant fight in the recently concluded game against Delhi Capitals. Although GT ended up losing the game by four runs, their captain made sure to praise his teammates for their effort.

Chasing 225 runs, GT looked all but out of the game when they were reduced to 152 for 6 in the 16th over. However, the likes of David Miller, Rashid Khan, and R Sai Kishore came up with valiant efforts and nearly took GT over the line. In the end, the Gujarat-based outfit finished their innings on 220/8.

In the 17th over, Miller completed a 21-ball fifty by smashing Anrich Nortje for 24 runs including three sixes and a four. After his departure in the 18th over, Rashid and Kishore collected 18 runs off the 19th over bowled by Rasikh Salam. In the final over, Rashid hit Mukesh Kumar for two fours and a six but could not score the required 19 runs to take his team over the line.

Earlier in the game, half-centuries from Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel helped DC recover from 44 for 3 and post a big total of 224 for 4 in 20 overs. Pant remained unbeaten on 88 runs off just 43 balls with the help of five fours and eight sixes. On the other hand, Axar scored 66 runs.

"I think we played some really good cricket, disappointing to lose in the end, but great character shown by everyone. Great fight till the end and we never thought we were out of the game at any point. When you're chasing 224, there's no point in talking about plans, just go out and score runs," said Shubman Gill after the loss.

Shubman Gill on poor finish with the ball:

Speaking further, Shubman Gill rued his team's failure to finish strongly with the ball. In the last three overs, DC scored as many as 67 runs including 31 runs in the final over bowled by Mohit Sharma. At the same time, the GT skipper was not very hard on his teammates as he pointed out that there was very little room for mistake on the 'smallish ground'.

"At one stage, we thought we would be able to restrict them to 200-210, but we gave away some extra runs in the last 2-3 overs. But this is a smallish ground, we spoke about the same when we went out to chase.

"Execution becomes very important, if there's a set batter or a finisher, you'll have to execute well. It's okay if there's something in the wicket, but on pitches like this, you'll have to make sure that you execute all your plans perfectly, be it the yorkers or the variations," said Shubman Gill.
