Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Riyan Parag made candid comments on his batting form following the match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Riyan Parag mentioned that he could have secured victory for the Rajasthan Royals if he had been in his best form.
The Sanju Samson-led team suffered a narrow one-run loss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, May 2. The Rajasthan bowlers conceded 201 runs to the opposition team after losing the toss. The visitors failed to chase down the target despite heroics from Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The Royals lost two wickets for just one run in the first over when Riyan Parag entered the crease. Parag formed a remarkable partnership of 134 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the third wicket. Parag was dismissed for 77 runs off 49 balls, including eight boundaries and four sixes, off Pat Cummins' bowling.
The Jaipur-based team needed 43 runs off 25 deliveries following Parag's dismissal. Shimron Hetmyer (13) and Dhruv Jurel (1) were dismissed for low scores. Rovman Powell almost guided the team to victory with 27 runs off 15 balls. However, Powell was dismissed when two were needed on the last ball.
I Am Not In My Best Form - Riyan Parag
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Riyan Parag acknowledged the need to take responsibility for finishing games for the team. Parag stated that he would learn from mistakes and strive for perfection, mentioning that it wasn't his best innings.
"I got a lot of areas to improve. I am not in my best form, I would have finished the game otherwise. I got a lot of areas to perfect. I try to learn from my mistakes and not repeat them. Is it my best innings? No. I would say that if I get a hundred," said Parag.
Parag has scored 409 runs across 10 matches at an impressive average of 58.42 and a strike rate of 159.14. The right-handed batter is the leading run-scorer for the Royals in the tournament. The young batter is fourth overall among leading run scorers, trailing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, and Sai Sudharsan.
Never Good To End On The Losing Side - Riyan Parag
Ryan Parag said that a few crucial errors cost RR the game, highlighting the team's dominant position in the match. He claimed that Yashaswi Jaiswal failed to execute the scoop shot well rather than batting recklessly.
"It is never good to end on the losing side. We did a lot of things right. We will focus on more rather than dwelling on our mistakes. We are at a good position in the points table. Just one bad game I guess. We made a few errors in two-three overs and it cost us the game. That is how T20 is, IPL is," said Parag.
"I do not think any of us threw our wickets. Jaiswal played that scoop because Natrajan was bowling good slower bouncers, hence he predicted a yorker and went for it. I was trying to muscle it for six. Probably an error in execution. We would have liked to stay till the end," he added.
