The Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) traveled to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday, May 7.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The RR bowling unit wasn't up to the mark in the match and ended up conceding 221 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin was the top wicket-taker for the team as he bagged a 3-wicket haul. Apart from him, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, and Yuzvendra Chahal got one wicket each.
For Delhi Capitals, Abishek Porel (65) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) did a fantastic job in the beginning and then Tristan Stubbs (41) finished off the innings on a high with his power-hitting.
Chasing the target, Sanju Samson led from the front and played an excellent knock of 86 runs. He was well-supported by Riyan Parag and Shubham Dubey but following their dismissals, Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 201/8 and lost the match by 20 runs.
Speaking after the match, Samson said that they thought the match was in their hands and the target could have been chased down. Sanju Samson also opined that they gave away 10 extra runs in the match. Sanju Samson stated:
"I think we had it in our hands, it was like 11-12 runs per over, it was achievable, these things happen in IPL.
"Yes, we are doing both things fine, we would like to stick what the conditions demand, 220 was 10 runs extra to chase, the DC opener came out and did what he does, we still came back well."
Sanju Samson while mentioning that Rajasthan Royals have lost some close games, credited the DC batter Tristan Stubbs for doing a great job against his best bowlers. Sanju Samson elaborated:
"We have lost three games but all those games have been really tight, we have been playing remarkably well, we have to do some fine-tuning and we need to keep the momentum going. Yes and No actually, you have to give credit to someone like Stubbs who batted well against Sandeep, he scored 2-3 sixes extra against my best bowlers who are Yuzi Chahal and Sandeep Sharma. We have lost the game, we have to find out where we lost the game, we need to keep moving."

Talking about Delhi Capitals, they were in the sixth position in the standings before the match due to their up-and-down kind of season. After the end of the match against Rajasthan Royals, they have jumped to the 5th spot.
