Indian women’s cricket team all-rounder Deepti Sharma compares Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic and former India captain MS Dhoni because of their abilities to keep themselves in control during pressure situations.
Deepti Sharma observes that the Serbian tennis legend and India’s legendary cricketer share some similar characteristics despite being in different sports segments. The Indian women’s team cricketer drew the comparison during her visit to the ongoing Wimbledon, after the conclusion of the India Women's cricket team's campaign in the Women's T20 World Cup in England.
Similarities between MS Dhoni and Novak Djokovic
While talking on Jio Hotstar, Deepti Sharma stated that Novak Djokovic is someone who is known for his mental strength and never-give-up attitude, just like MS Dhoni. Whenever the situations seem to come with extensive pressure, both of the legends find ways to tackle those instances and walk out as the winners.
“When you talk about Djokovic, everyone speaks about his mental strength. He is someone who never gives up, no matter how tough the situation is. In cricket, I think MS Dhoni sir is very similar. He is known for being very cool and calm. Whenever pressure situations come, he handles them really well. It never looks like he is in a difficult situation. He handles pressure so easily," Deepti told Jio Hotstar.
"Both Djokovic and Dhoni have that rare quality of staying calm and strong when it matters the most,” she added.
Deepti Sharma just fulfilled one of his biggest dreams
Many Indian cricketers dream of watching a Tennis match live from the stands. Wimbledon is one of the grandest stages to witness a top-end tennis contest where top talents across the globe travel to show their skills. Deepti Sharma is amongst the fortunate to fulfill the long-cherished dream.
“I dreamed that one day I would come to watch a Wimbledon match, and it feels really good to finally be here. When you go to watch a match at an iconic venue like this, and when you have always seen it on TV but today you are seeing it live for the first time, it feels amazing. The atmosphere, the crowd, the energy – everything is different. I am really enjoying watching tennis at Wimbledon. It just feels great," she said.
Who is Deepti Sharma's current favourite tennis player
Deepti further claims that currently, Novak Djokovic is her favourite tennis star, while she grew up watching the legends of the sport like Roger Federe, Rafael Nadal. She acknowledged that during her youth, Federer and Nadal used to be her favourite tennis players, but now, it is Djokovic because of the never-give-up mentality.
"My favorite is Djokovic. I follow his game very closely. The way he fights on the court, his mental strength, and his never-give-up attitude, I really admire all of that. Watching him play is always inspiring," she added.
"I grew up watching greats like Federer and Nadal. I followed their matches closely for a long time. But lately, Djokovic has become my favourite. I follow his matches more than anyone else now."
