Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has reckoned that while the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals will once again have a great season in the IPL, they may still fall short of winning the coveted trophy.

Delhi Capitals were one of the most consistent teams in IPL 2020. The Ricky Ponting-coached outfit made its way into the finals for the first time in its history where they were eventually beaten by the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians.

“Delhi Capitals will once again qualify and finish in the top three after the league phase. They may still fall short of winning the trophy, that’s my gut feel,” said Aakash Chopra on his official Youtube channel.

The opener-turned commentator picked Delhi Capitals’ newly-appointed skipper Rishabh Pant to be their top player in IPL 2021.

Pant, who had a poor IPL campaign by his standards last year, has had a fairytale last six months thanks to his consistent match-winning performances for Team India.

“Rishabh Pant will be the most valuable player for this franchise. With his batting, captaincy and keeping – his overall performance will be like a most valuable player. It is possible he could be the most valuable player of the entire IPL,” said Chopra.

Chopra has also backed Prithvi Shaw to shrug off his IPL 2020 horrors this season, predicting that the diminutive Mumbai opener will end up with the highest strike rate for the Delhi Capitals.

“Prithvi Shaw will have the highest strike rate for this team. This will be a good year for Prithvi Shaw. A lot of runs will flow from his bat and extremely quick as well because he hits two-three boundaries as a time-pass. He is actually back to his best,” added Aakash Chopra.

And, unsurprisingly, Chopra picked last year’s purple cap holder in Kagiso Rabada to once again be Delhi Capitals spearhead this season.

“Kagiso Rabada to pick the most wickets. He always does that, so he will definitely be picking wickets, there is no doubt about that,” signed off Chopra.
