Deodhar Trophy 2023: Saurabh Tiwary To Lead East Zone, Bengal's Abhimanyu Easwaran Named Vice-Captain

Veteran batsman Saurabh Tiwary will be leading East Zone in the upcoming Deodhar Trophy, the domestic inter-zonal 50-over competition. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Puducherry from July 24 to August 3.

The Deodhar Trophy will mark its return in the 2023-24 domestic cricket season after a hiatus of four years. It will also be returning to its traditional zonal format for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Incidentally, East Zone were the winners when the competition was last held in the Zonal format.

From 2015–16 to 2017-18, the winners of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India A and India B play each other in a round-robin format and the top two teams made it to the final. In 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, India A, India B, and India C played each other in a round-robin format and the top two teams locked horns in the final.

With the Zonal format returning this season, a total of six teams – North Zone, South Zone, Central Zone, North East Zone, West Zone, and East Zone will participate in Deodhar Trophy this year.

East Zone squad for Deodhar Trophy:

While Jharkhand’s senior batsman Saurabh Tiwary will be leading East Zone, Bengal’s star batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named as his deputy.

The other notable names in the squad are Assam’s Riyan Parag, Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Ahmed, and Bengal’s Akash Deep. East Zone will open their campaign against Central Zone on July 24.
