Dewald Brevis Aka ‘Baby AB’ Breaks Shikhar Dhawan's Record Ahead Of The IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Young South Africa batsman Dewald Brevis, nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ for his similarities in batting technique with legendary AB de Villiers, broke the massive record of opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan in the Under-19 World Cup 2022 ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

The 18-year-old now holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single edition of the marquee U19 World Cup. Brevis went past Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 505 runs, which he scored in 2004.

Dewald Brevis smashed 506 runs in the U19 World Cup 2022 in just 6 games. He batted exceptionally well in all the games and his sole failure came against Sri Lanka where he scored 6 runs.

The young Proteas batsman scored 65 runs against India, 104 against Uganda, 96 against Ireland, 97 against England, 6 against Sri Lanka and against Bangladesh, where South Africa were fighting for 7th-8th placing, he smashed 138 runs off 130 balls including 7 sixes and 11 boundaries. Also, he helped South Africa chase the 294 runs target comfortably.

Shikhar Dhawan ( India – 2004) – 505 runs in 7 matches

The Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction is all set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Brevis is among the 590 players who have been shortlisted and will go under the hammer at the IPL 2022 auction. He has placed himself in the Rs 20 lakh bracket.

Previously, he had said that he is a big fan of IPL and would love to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash-rich league because his favourites – Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers – had played for the franchise together.

“For me, one of the biggest dreams is to play for the Proteas. I’m such a big fan of IPL and I would love to play the IPL for RCB. I love RCB because Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were there.

“I’m a big fan of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers,” he had said in an interview during the World Cup
