In a recent development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Gurjapneet Singh has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The Chennai-based franchise has reportedly roped in South African youngster Dewald Brevis as a replacement, with one overseas slot available.
Dewald Brevis, famously known as "Baby AB," went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by the Mumbai Indians. He has experience in various global T20 leagues, including with MI New York, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, and New York Strikers. Brevis will be a valuable asset for the franchise.

Chennai Super Kings took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that Gurjapneet Singh has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an injury. The five-time IPL champions wished him a speedy recovery.

The much-awaited IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take place at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20 at 7:30 pm.
MI, under Hardik Pandya's leadership, has had an inconsistent run with three wins and four losses. On the other hand, CSK, led by MS Dhoni, has faced similar struggles with two wins and five losses.
Chennai Super Kings Sign South Africa's Dewald Brevis as Injury Replacement
The Indian Premier League officially announced on Friday that Chennai Super Kings have signed Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis has been picked up by CSK for ₹2.2 crore for the remainder of the 2025 season.
"Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa's Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025," the IPL statement read.
"Brevis was previously part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore."
Dewald Brevis Becomes the Second Replacement Player for CSK This Season
Brevis has played 81 T20 matches, amassing 1,787 runs at an average of 26.27 and a strike rate of 144.93. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023. Brevis was with Mumbai Indians (MI) and played 10 IPL matches.
In the 2025 SA20 season, he finished as the sixth-highest run-scorer with 291 runs at a strike rate of 184.17, helping MI Cape Town secure its first title.
He will join Chennai Super Kings, who are at the bottom of the standings with only two wins. The batter becomes the second replacement player for CSK this season, following the signing of Mumbai's Ayush Mhatre to fill in for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad.
