The Duleep Trophy 2026/27 season has concluded with East Zone becoming champions of the competition after 13 years. Ishan Kishan led yet another domestic side to the championship. Mohammed Shami was the key player for the side and has now taken a swipe at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors for ignoring him.
East Zone scored 708 runs in the first innings with their captain Ishan Kishan playing a sensational knock of 270 runs. After that, South Zone never recovered, scoring only 336 runs; then East Zone came back with a healthy lead of 372 runs, and the match was drawn; due to East Zone's lead, they won the match.

While with RevSportz, Shami spoke about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's talent. He believes that the 15-year-old boy wonder has been amazing and also has a bright career ahead, as he needs to keep the focus, as he has earned a name for himself, and he needs to maintain the same and enjoy the game.
“A career that has spanned 15-16 years,” Shami turned to Sooryavanshi. “We have a 15-year-old with us. “So, the career is practically bigger. Specifically for him (Sooryavanshi), I say that he has a long career ahead. He needs a lot of focus, so keep at it. You have earned a name, fame and a great game. Take care of yourself, enjoy it.”
Mohammed Shami to work hard for India comeback
Mohammed Shami on working hard at the age of 36 as a fast bowler it is hard, and he believes the same, though he is enjoying his cricket as he continues to work hard.
“Bahut mehnat karna padta hai bhai (it takes a lot of hard work),” he told RevSportz. At this stage of his career, what keeps him going? “I’m very much enjoying my cricket.”
Mohammed Shami, while further stating, revealed the secret of the reverse swing, as he bowled excellently in the Duleep Trophy tournament and showcased the young bowlers the art of reverse swing in the competition. He bowled well in the final and picked up two wickets in the first innings.
“For reverse-swing, it’s very important to maintain the ball,” said Shami. “You can’t use saliva. So, you have to rely on sweat only to shine the ball. The seam position is important, as is hitting the ball hard on the surface.”
Is Mohammed Shami unfit to play for India?
Despite all the performances in the Ranji Trophy and domestic matches, he has been ignored by the BCCI selectors for the India National Cricket Team. With the performance he has had this season, and for the last few seasons, he still remains India’s greatest bowler with the old ball in Test match cricket for his ability to swing the ball.
When asked about his comeback, he believes that it is not in his hands and he has stopped thinking about the same, as he will continue to perform and enjoy his cricket. Ask him about his fitness, and he will retort: “Didn’t you watch the game? Did I look unfit?”
“I have said this many times,” he would start. “I have stopped thinking about something that is not in my hands. I’m enjoying my cricket. I’m doing the hard work. And I always play for the badge.”
