India and Australia locked horns in the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and the match went rather one-sided with Australia winning the World Cup title for the record-extending sixth time. Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first on a tricky wicket in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma gave a flying start to the Indian innings but eventually got out after scoring a quickfire 47.

Kevin Pietersen was asked about Rohit Sharma’s rash shot on which he got out off Maxwell’s bowling. He said that he would prefer talking about the catch that Travis Head took off Rohit’s shot which led to the completion of the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma got the leading edge on Glenn Maxwell’s delivery sending the ball high in the air straight. Travis Head went running backward to claim the catch and dived forward to take a stunner.

Kevin Pietersen said, “Why discuss and talk about Rohit’s shot? It was a great catch too. So, let’s appreciate it. It was a superb catch (by Travis Head).” After Rohit’s departure, the Indian middle-order failed to convert a spectacular start and started losing wickets at crucial points which made the job easy for the Aussies to win the game.

Rohit Sharma’s Wicket Was The Turning Point In The Finals

After Rohit Sharma’s wicket, it took around 13 overs for the Indian batters to find a boundary and the Australian bowling attack was choking the Indian batting. The Indian scorecard crept to a score of 240 in 50 overs. In reply, the Australians were off to a shaky start losing three wickets under 50 runs but then Travis Head stitched a 192-run partnership for the fourth-wicket leading the charge in the finals.

Travis Head scored a blistering 137 off 120 deliveries and did the job for the Aussies. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance in the finals of the World Cup. India was completely dominant in the entire tournament winning ten matches in succession but lastly succumbed in the finals. Australia showed why they are the most successful team in the World.

Australia now have six ODI World Cup titles to their name and they wrote a tremendous comeback in this year’s World Cup after losing their first two matches and then winning nine straight matches in a row.
