Dinesh Karthik in his most recent episode for Cricbuzz has shared his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah as India's future captain. Jasprit Bumrah has led India in the past but currently, he is not in contention for the job.

The concept of a fast bowler being a captain is not so common in Indian cricket. Pat Cummins is walking the talk as Australia's all-format captain however a similar thing has not transpired yet in Indian cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah's leadership qualities have been spoken time and again by different cricket experts. However, to see him lead India across formats, especially him being a fast bowler with his workload management is a big question.

Talking about Jasprit Bumrah as a potential captain for India across formats, Dinesh Karthik sounded worried in his response to this query with Bumrah's workload as a pacer coming into the picture.

Jasprit Bumrah Is Like Kohinoor Diamond: Dinesh Karthik

"Everything right ... He is calm cool, good maturity but he is a fast bowler so how can we play him for all three formats that is the biggest question the selectors would have had.

"For a fast bowler like Bumrah, his fitness needs to be monitored and he needs to be protected as a player and only made to play in important matches, I keep saying this about Bumrah, he is like a Kohinoor diamond, we got to protect him, take care of him, make sure that he lasts as long as possible because whenever Bumrah plays in any format he makes an impact and that's what we want," said Dinesh Karthik.

He further said that burdening Jasprit Bumrah with captaincy pressure can lead him to get injured which will be a big problem for the Indian team. The pacer last played in the ICC T20 World Cup for India where he ended as the Player of the Series taking 15 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 8.27. It included two match-winning spells against Pakistan and South Africa in the final.

While there have been a lot of talks regarding Bumrah as a potential captaincy candidate for India, he has remained open to it. He in fact chose himself as his favourite captain courtesy of leading India in a few games surpassing names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

"See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains but I would take my name that I am my favourite captain," he said when asked to pick the greatest Indian captain by The Indian Express.

Bumrah has captained India in three matches - a Test against England and two T20Is against Ireland. His captaincy debut was against England in Birmingham in 2022 when captain Rohit was down with Covid.

Meanwhile, as per recent reports in Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make a comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh. He might play in one of the two Test matches against Bangladesh and in two out of the three matches in the New Zealand Test series that follows next.

Bumrah is key to India's chances in Australia when they tour down under with the first Test starting on November 22 in Perth.
