Disappointed Shane Warne Slams Rishabh Pant For Claiming Will Pucovski's Catch After Dropping It

Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has taken aim at under-pressure India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant after the latter claimed Will Pucovski’s catch on day one of the ongoing third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Rishabh Pant endured a forgettable day behind the stumps on Thursday and dropped Pucovski twice.
The first time was an outside edge off Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling in the 22nd over that Rishabh Pant failed to latch on to when Pucovski was batting on 26. The second one was an easier catch when Pucovski, while batting on 32, edged a short delivery from Mohammad Siraj behind the stumps. The ball ballooned over Rishabh Pant but it was an easy catch.
The wicketkeeper, however, made a mess of the catch and spilled it. He then went on to claim the catch after not showing any sort of excitement initially. Replays then showed that the ball had landed on the ground first before the India wicketkeeper picked it up in a hurry. Unsurprisingly, he has been facing criticism from fans.
And now, Shane Warner has joined the bandwagon too to criticise Rishabh Pant. Taking aim at the youngster, the spin great said he was ‘disappointed’ at his reaction before saying: “How’s he claiming that?”
“I just can’t believe that because look at his hands. You can’t catch a ball when your hands are basically facing down. He tries, but watch his hands, he sort of bumps the ball onto the ground.
“He smothers it, it’s like a try. He didn’t actually get his hands underneath so you can’t give that out. How’s he claiming that? How’s he catching that? The only thing underneath the palms of his hands is dirt, so I was a little disappointed with that one,” added Shane Warne while speaking on Fox Sports.
