Australia's Mitchell Starc went into the record books as he became the most expensive player in IPL history. KKR shelled out 24.75 crores to rope him in as mentor Gautam Gambhir broke the bank for the Knight Riders.

The move eventually paid off as Mitchell Starc picked up 17 wickets, 11 of them in the second half of the tournament. He delivered in every big game that KKR played. The younger bowlers in the side spoke very highly of Starc and how they groomed the younger bowlers in the side.

Time and again Gambhir also spoke about Starc's contribution to the franchise and how a few bad games did not do any harm to his reputation of being a brilliant international bowler.

5 Australian Players Who Can Break Mitchell Starc's Record Of Being The Highest-Paid Player In IPL Auction

Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell is one of those maverick cricketers who always attracts high bids from franchises. Over the years, he has played in the IPL for Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and RCB. His best years in the IPL have come with the KIngs. It was in 2014 which was his breakout year.

He scored 552 runs and played his part in taking the team to the final. In 2021, he scored 513 for RCB. In 2023, he scored 400. As per recent reports, he is expected to leave RCB ahead of the next mega auctions which leaves him to find a new franchise.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

The young batter took IPL 2024 by storm as he scored 330 runs for Delhi Capitals in just nine matches. He came into the side after Mitchell Starc had to miss a big part of the season with a hamstring injury just before the T20 World Cup.

Fraser-McGurk took the opportunity with both hands as he scored his runs at a strike rate of over 230 hitting 32 fours and 28 sixes. He starts hitting from ball one and tries to maximize his stay at the crease. Teams might want to bank on his fearless approach.

David Warner

With the IPL 2024 mega auction coming up, Delhi Capitals might think of releasing David Warner. Warner has been a proven match-winner in the IPL and the overseas batter with the most runs in the IPL.

He is now retired from international cricket and will play in the IPL for a few more years which might see him become the most expensive player in IPL history.

Marcus Stoinis

It will be interesting to see whether LSG releases Marcus Stoinis. The all-rounder has been a consistent run-getter for the franchise in the last few years.

He is closing in on 1000 IPL runs for LSG. He has also been amongst the wickets for them as well. His all-round potential might make him one of the costliest players in IPL history.

Adam Zampa

The final player in this list is Azam Zampa. The leggie has played for various franchises in the past but none has given him a longer rope.

With spinners key in the IPL, the franchise might bid for the Aussie leg spinner in the next mega auction.
