Since making his comeback to the T20I squad for the Asia Cup, Shubman has registered back-to-back low scores and has he has faced heavy criticism.

During the massive run-chase in the second T20I against the Proteas, Gill fell for a golden duck in the first over itself. Lungi Ngidi bowled a peach to Gill, who edged it straight towards Reeza Hendricks.

After Gill's dismissal, the hopes were pinned on the skipper Suryakumar Yadav to steer India out of trouble, but he also failed to score big.

On the fifth ball of the 4th over, Marco Jansen bowled a length ball to Suryakumar Yadav, who edged it straight into the gloves of keeper Quinton de Kock. He took a walk back to the hut, scoring 5 runs.

Overall, Shubman Gill averages 23 in 14 innings since his return to the T20I setup, with no half-century. Also, in his last 18 T20I innings, he has registered scores of 0, 4, 29*, 46, 15, 5, 37*, 12, 4, 29, 47, 5, 10, 20*, 39, 34, 13, 58*.

Here's How Fans Reacted To Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav's flop show:

You cannot drive your wagon properly without any captain's runs - Aakash Chopra

Speaking ahead of the match on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Suryakumar and Gill need to score well if they want to lead India properly.

"Suryakumar Yadav needs to score runs because, ultimately, runs are required. You cannot drive your wagon properly without any captain's runs. Suryakumar Yadav hasn't scored runs for a long time when he has played for India. It's not like he has been seen playing very badly," he said.

"In the last match as well, he played a flick for a six, and hit sixes similarly in Australia, but a big knock is required. Then the wagon comes on track. It doesn't make a difference whether you win the toss or not because this team doesn't lose, but it's necessary for Suryakumar Yadav to score runs," Chopra added.

"Shubman Gill comes from Chandigarh, and he needs to score the runs. There is a monkey on his back. He needs to dislodge that monkey. A question looming large is why Shubman Gill is required. There are many options available for the opening slot, and that is why the pressure is real."
