India National Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer, who is captaining India D, didn't have the kind of outing he would've wanted in the ongoing game against India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur.

Shreyas Iyer, who bagged a duck in the first innings, looked in decent touch in the ongoing second innings for his team. The right-hander batted positively and played some crisp shots in his innings. With the way he batted, a big score seemed to be the cards but it wasn't the case.

Shreyas Iyer came to bat at No.4 and ensured that he scored runs quickly for the team in a big chase. The right-hander came up with some eye-catching strokes. Despite bagging a duck in the first innings, he looked comfortable in the ongoing innings as he tried to put the pressure back on the opposition.

But his positive attitude led to his downfall as well. The batter tried to hit spinner Shams Mulani out of the park but he missed the ball and saw his stump getting shattered. It's fair to say with the kind of start he had, he threw away the opportunity to score big runs for the team.

On the last ball of the 47th over, Shams Mulani bowled a delivery on the shorter side from around the wicket. Shreyas Iyer went to whack it through square leg, but the ball stayed a touch low. It went past the inside edge to nutmeg the batter and crashed into leg stump as he attempted a big swipe across the line.

Here's the video:

Iyer ended with the innings 41 runs off 55 balls. He batted with a strike rate of around 75 and also hit 8 fours in his innings. It wasn't a great outing for him with the bat in the ongoing game as he couldn't go past the 50-run mark in the game

Shreyas Iyer, who slammed a solid half-century in the last game, couldn't prove his worth with the bat in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. In the four innings so far, he didn't have the kind of outing he would've wanted as to make his case strong for the Indian team, he needed to have a big ton under his belt.

Iyer, who slammed a century on Test debut for India, was dropped from the team after the two Tests against England, having bagged a series of low scores in the last few games and his poor record in overseas games. He got dropped after returning with scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests against England National Cricket Team.

Overall, Iyer has slammed 811 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 38.86, including one century and five 50s. But with the Ranji Trophy around the corner and the India team set to play 10 Tests in the upcoming few months, he would want to make a massive impact and earn his place back in the team.
