Dwayne Bravo announces CPL retirement, prepares to take legendary exit

Former West Indies National Cricket Team all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The former Chennai Super Kings fast bowler stated that the 2024 edition of the league will be his last season.

Dwayne Bravo announced the decision of his retirement through a social media post. The all-rounder stated that he would be playing his final professional career competition in front of his home crowd in the Caribbean. Taking to his Instagram account, he stated:

“It’s been a great journey and I’m looking forward to playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean people. TKR is the place where everything started for me and will end with my team.”

Dwayne Bravo no doubt has been the legend of the game, and his career will be coming to an end after the next edition of the Caribbean Premier League. The all-rounder has made a massive impact in the league along with other tournaments around the world.

Dwayne Bravo has made a huge impact in the Carribean Premier League (CPL). He is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 128 wickets to his name in the 103 matches in the league. He also has been decent with the bat as he slammed 1155 runs.

Not only this, Dwayne Bravo also has won five titles in the Caribbean Premier League. Three of those titles came under his leadership. He will be representing Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2024. The franchise will campaign on Sunday against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Bravo led Trinbago Knight Riders to two back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 before captaining the Patriots to their first title in 2021. In this edition, he would be keen to end his career on high and help the team win another title, finishing his career with 6 titles.

Bravo announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Following the the all-rounder called time on his career in the Indian Premier League in 2023. Since then he has been serving as Chennai Super Kings' bowling coach in the tournament.

Overall, Dwayne Bravo is the leading wicket-taker in all T20s. The all-rounder has picked 630 wickets in 578 matches. He has also scored 6,970 runs with the bat. Not only this, he also has won the most number of trophies in the shortest format of the game.

With Bravo announcing his retirement from the T20s, he might likely pick up coaching roles now. He was also the bowling consultant of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team during the T20 World Cup 2024 and helped the team reach the semi-final of the tournament. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the best bolwer in the shortest format of the game.
