Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has officially announced his retirement from all formats of the game. Dwayne Bravo, who is the leading wicket-taker in the history of T20 cricket, bid farewell to cricket during the middle of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024) season.

Bravo had already announced his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). The all-rounder retired from international cricket in 2021. He then played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL before starting to appear in other roles as a freelance bowling coach.

The 40-year-old was set to retire from the Caribbean Premier League after the ongoing season. However, the veteran sustained a groin injury while attempting a catch during a match against St. Lucia Kings. This injury prematurely ended his farewell campaign with the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Filled With Many Highs And A Few Lows - Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from cricket via an emotional Instagram post. He said that his mind wants to continue, but his body can no longer handle the physical strain. Bravo shared that he always gave 100% despite facing highs and lows in his career.

"Twenty-one years as a professional cricketer - it's been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows," Bravo wrote in his Instagram post announcing retirement on Thursday (September 26).

"Most importantly, I was able to live my dream because I gave you 100 (percent) at every step. As much as I'd love to continue this relationship, it's time to face reality.

"My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can't put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent.

"So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell."

Bravo has been a key figure in the CPL since its inception in 2013. He has played 107 matches and scored 1,155 runs, including two half-centuries. He also holds the record as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 129 wickets. The right-arm medium pacer won five championships in the CPL.
