Pakistan's batter Babar Azam broke his shackles to hit a stunning international hundred after such a long time, yet was left red-faced when he was prompted by a man from behind while writing the word 'wickets' at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium honours board.
Pakistan registered back-to-back home series triumphs in the ODI format, first against South Africa and now against Sri Lanka. The Lankans are currently on a white-ball tour of the nation, with the ODI bilateral ending after today's match.
The matches were rescheduled after the visitors seemed threatened by a suicide bombing at Islamabad, which is not far distant from Rawalpindi, where the matches are being played. Moreover, the T20I tri-series has also been pushed back by a day each, with the series starting on the 18th of November.
Babar Azam prompted the spelling of 'Wickets' while writing on the Honours board
Undoubtedly, Pakistan have got their swing back; be it crunch finishes or single-sided games, they have managed to keep their nerves since finishing as runners-up of the Asia Cup 2025. Also, some changes have been made in leadership as well by the new head coach, Mike Hesson.
Playing under vice-captain Salman Agha's leadership in the absence of Shaheen Afridi, veteran batter Babar Azam led from the front as Pakistan chased a target of 289 runs with ease. He was backed by the two other experienced batsmen, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan.
After winning the game, the Rawalpindi Honours Board was all set to be filled by the great batter who was also coined the Player of the Match. A viral video records a man prompting Babar Azam with a sentence and spellings, while the former Pakistan skipper writes.
What seemed humiliating was that Azam was to be prompted on the spelling of the word 'wickets' as well. He then went on to fill the individual players' honours board for himself with an unbeaten century, which came after a long wait.

Babar Azam ended an 83-innings wait for an International hundred
Babar Azam, much like Indian veteran Virat Kohli, ended his century drought in international cricket after 83 innings. He played 83 innings over the course of 2 years in different formats without scoring a single international hundred.
His previous hundred for Pakistan came back in August 2023, when he scored 151 against Nepal in the Asia Cup. This marked the second-longest streak for a Pakistan batter without a hundred, with Umar Akmal taking the top spot, and Mohammad Rizwan also featured on the unwanted list with an 82 innings drought between 2021 and 2023.
Despite the long wait, Babar Azam is well and truly back. With this century, he levelled Pakistan legend Saeed Anwar's record for most ODI hundreds for Pakistan. He is now joint highest with 20 centuries.
Pakistan created a new record in the second ODI against South Africa
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were both involved in another century partnership, and this marked a record 40th hundred partnership involving Babar. He is just one step behind levelling the record of most century partnerships, held by former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Also, the target of 289, which Pakistan chased with ease, marked the second-highest by them losing two or fewer wickets. Their highest such chase remains a 309 against India back in 2008 in Karachi.
