England have suffered an injury blow ahead of the upcoming four-match T20I series against New Zealand. Their fast bowler Josh Tongue has been ruled out of the series due to an injury. Veteran bowler Chris Jordan has replaced him in the England squad.

Josh Tongue had earned his maiden T20I call-up for the series after making his Test debut earlier in the season during the one-off Test against Ireland at Lord’s. He also played one match during the five-match Ashes series against Australia.

After going wicketless in the first innings against Ireland, he picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings. Josh Tongue impressed against Australia too as he picked up five wickets at Lord’s. And while he would have hoped to impress in the white-ball format too after earning his maiden call-up, he will have to wait for some more time for his debut.

Josh Tongue was one of the three uncapped fast bowlers named in England’s T20I squad for the series against New Zealand. The other two pacers are John Turner and Gus Atkinson. Atkinson has also been named in England’s ODI squad for the New Zealand series.

Chris Jordan replaces Josh Tongue:

With Josh Tongue out of the series due to an injury, Chris Jordan has been recalled by the hosts. He was part of England’s squad for the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh in March this year. Jordan played in all three games of the series but could not make much of an impact as he picked up just 1 wicket.

The 34-year-old has earned the recall after impressing with both bat and ball in the ongoing The Hundred. In 4 innings so far, he has picked up 8 wickets while maintaining an economy rate of less than 7. With the bat, he opened his campaign with a 22-run knock before smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 32 balls against Welsh Fire.

England T20I squad:
