South Africa faces hosts England in the second ODI on Friday, July 22 in the three-match series. The visitors are leading the series 1-0 after their win in the first ODI. A win in the second ODI would ensure a series win and another ODI series loss for England. It is desperate times for both teams heading into Manchester. The ODI series is not a part of the ICC ODI Super League.

England have big boots to fill after the ODI retirement of Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan. Stokes retired after the first game citing a packed schedule as one of his reasons for retiring from the ODI format. Besides he spoke about playing 150 Tests for England and thus taking care of his body to achieve that landmark.

“It was never going to be an easy one, but now being the captain of the Test team and how much cricket is coming up, I have to look after my body because I want to play as long as I possibly can. I look at how Jimmy and Broady’s careers have gone since they stopped playing white-ball cricket… I want to play 140, 150 Test matches for England. It’s come earlier than I would have liked but in T20 cricket I bowl 2 or 3 overs here and there. Hopefully when I’m 35, 36 I can look back on this decision and say I’m happy with it” said Stokes in a chat with Nasser Hussain or Sky Sports.

The next ODI thus will be a big one for the Jos Buttler-led England side who will be without Stokes and Morgan in the future in ODI cricket. South Africa would like to seize this opportunity on building on a good start with England lacking their big match winner to pick up a series win.
