Lord's is all set to host the first ENG vs WI Test match of the three-match series. The Test match will be played from July 10-14. This is also the final Test match for James Anderson. He will retire from international cricket after this match with 188 Test matches to his name.

England Cricket Board have already announced their playing XI for the first Test. The side led by Ben Stokes has two new faces who will be making their Test debut. Pacer Gus Atkinson and keeper-batter Jamie Smith will be getting their Test caps.

A few players have been axed from the squad who played in the last Test series against India earlier this year in February-March. Jonny Bairstow, Tom Hartley, Ollie Robinson, Jack Leach, Ben Foakes, and Mark Wood who played in the last Test series against India have all been dropped.

West Indies will be led by Kiargg Brathwaite. Jason Holder has made a comeback into the squad after missing the T20 World Cup with an injury.

Pacer Jayden Seals has also returned to the Test side. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Kemar Roach is ruled out of the series with a knee injury with Jeremiah Louis a rookie pacer named as his replacement. Cricket West Indies have also picked uncapped opening batter Mikyle Louis in the 15-player squad.

The West Indies squad looks promising but they will be tested by an England side playing at home. England have good seaming options in Chris Woakes who made a return to the England Test side as well, Anderson, Atkinson, and skipper Ben Stokes.

ENG vs WI Weather Report Of London

This is the summer season in England and the national cricket team will start the home summer against West Indies in a three-match Test series. The weather forecast for the first Test at Lord's is a mixed bag.

The weather conditions on day one will be good with temperatures around 22 degrees in the morning. Days 2, 3, and 4 have a forecast of rain with the weather on day five again looking bright and beautiful.

ENG vs WI Pitch Analysis

The pitch at Lord's is arguably the best one for batting in England. There are plenty of runs in store for good batters who can apply themselves. With inclement weather across the next three days, the first day's play will be a crucial one.

The toss will be crucial as well as the team who wins the toss should look to bat first. The venue has hosted 145 Test matches to date and is one of the heritage cricket grounds across the world.

Weather Impact on ENG vs WI 1st Test 2024

There is a definite chance of rain on days 2, 3, and 4 in the Test match. The weather forecast for day 1 and day 5 are relatively better.

However, if there is no play and less play in the other three days the match might well end as a tie. Thus James Anderson's farewell Test match might not have the perfect ending.

Conclusion

England kick off their home summer with the first Test against West Indies. This is a three-match Test series and part of the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
