According to the reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to restrict the participation of the players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the team’s horrible run in the Ashes 2021-22.

Joe Root-led England have managed to avoid the 5-0 whitewash against Australia as the 4th Ashes Test ended in a draw. England have lost the 5-match Ashes series by losing the first three games back-to-back. England lost the first match by 9 wickets at the Gabba, the second game by 275 runs at the Adelaide Oval and the third game by an innings and 14 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Currently, England is trailing by 0-3 in the 5-match Test series.

It is being told that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to conduct a full review of England’s defeat in the ongoing Ashes. The reports of mirror.co.uk suggest that the Managing Director of the ECB, Ashley Giles is all set to prepare a report on ways to improve the Test team’s fortunes after Ashes failure and restricting the participation of players in the IPL might be one of the ideas.

The India Premier League (IPL) 2022 will clash with the phase of England’s Test summer as the knockout stages of the marquee league are most likely to overlap with England’s 1st Test against New Zealand in June.

Several big England players are set to take part in IPL 2022 and it is being told that the ECB will be asking players to cut short their time in the IPL and participate in domestic games to prepare for the series against the Black Caps.

Former English cricketer Michael Atherton had also criticised players for prioritising IPL over international games and said that the players shouldn’t miss international games to play in the IPL.

The leading multi-format players are paid seven-figure sums, but, incredibly, the ECB washes its hands of them for two months of the year during the Indian Premier League,” Atherton wrote in his column for the Times.

“The players should be told that, while the ECB will be accommodating of the request to play in IPL, a 12-month contract is exactly that, and the granting of a no-objection certificate to play in IPL and other franchised competitions are contingent on it being in the best interests of the England team,” he added.
