Rohit Sharma has appreciated England bowlers calling them very disciplined. The Indian opener also mentioned that he wanted to play shots during Day 3 of India vs England 3rd Test but could not get an opportunity to do so due to England’s good bowling in the 2nd innings. Rohit Sharma scored an impressive knock of 59 runs in the 2nd innings of the ongoing Headingley Test.

Facing 159 deliveries, he also scored 7 boundaries and 1 six during his knock. Moreover, after KL Rahul lost his wicket cheaply for 8 runs, Sharma accounted for a crucial partnership of 82 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara for the 2nd wicket. He became a victim of Ollie Robinson’s delivery, losing his wicket through an LBW. In spite of reviewing it, the decision emerged with an umpire’s call and Sharma had to leave the field.

England Bowlers Are Very Disciplined: Rohit Sharma

During the press conference at the end of Day’s play, Rohit Sharma mentioned that he felt like playing shots but did not get a chance against England’s disciplined bowling.

“Their bowlers are very disciplined. Feel like playing shots but I do not get the opportunity. Therefore you have to respect the situation and play. I wait for the opportunity to score and give the bowlers respect until then,” he said.

The right-handed batsman also said that for him, staying longer on the crease while batting is as important as scoring runs.

“I know what challenges you have to face when you open the batting in such conditions. Keeping that in mind, you have to make some changes to your technique, which I did. I am happy those changes have worked. When you are batting, scoring runs is most important, but for me the longer I stay at the crease is also very important,” the 34-year-old further said.

Speaking about his wicket, Sharma said that he is not disappointed as it was an unlucky dismissal that can happen anytime.

“I am not disappointed. It was an unlucky dismissal that can happen anytime you are batting. When the three-figure mark has to happen it will happen. My focus is on winning the match,” he further said.
