Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that the England Team is at their worst stage in white-ball formats in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Michael Vaughan also believes that the team will completely end and could enter a new transition after the World Cup if they do not take proper precautions in the upcoming games in the tournament.

Jos Buttler is the captain of England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. England is part of Group B in the tournament. They face stiff competition with teams like Australia, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman to reach the next round. Only the top two teams will enter the Super 8 round.

England has played 2 games in the tournament so far. The defending champions' first game against Scotland was washed out due to rain. They lost their next encounter against Australia by 36 runs, failing to chase down a 202-run target.

Notably, England bowlers have highly failed in both the games in T20 World Cup 2024. During the washed-out encounter against Scotland, English bowlers leaked 90-0 in 10 overs in 1st innings. Later, their bowling unit allowed the Aussies to reach a gigantic 201-7 in the next match.

England is coming to an end and will go through a transition post-T20 WC: Michael Vaughan

In his column for The Telegraph, former England all-rounder Michael Vaughan predicted England's future after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He reckoned that England was the best white-ball team three years ago under Eoin Morgan. However, their dominance would end after the tournament and they would undergo a transition.

"In 2019 England won the World Cup playing fearless cricket but Eoin Morgan ran that team with an iron fist. Players knew where they stood and were wary of crossing him. Three years ago England were the best white-ball team in the world and everyone else was trying to copy them", he wrote.

"But you can’t sit still in sport and England did that. Other teams copied them but brought more skill and discipline to their cricket. England have to be very careful. This team is clearly coming to the end and they will go through transition after this World Cup," the 45-year-old further wrote.

Elaborating on England's woes in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Michael Vaughan said the team is repeating the same mistakes again and again in selections and tactics.

"We should not be surprised that England are in this mess. The team has been in decline for a while and is making the same mistakes all over again in selection and tactics. From the outside, it seems to me the players are too powerful. It is all lovely and nice in the setup but I have never seen lovely and nice win World Cups," the 49-year-old said.

England are defending champions of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Interestingly, England is the defending champions of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Under Jos Butter’s leadership, England won the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Now, it has to be seen how they perform in T20I World Cup 2024.

England won the ODI World Cup 2019 but came up with a miserable show in the next edition in the 2023 World Cup, where they finished in the 7th spot in the points table out of 10 teams.
