In what has been the latest development, it is learned as per the various reports that England players have rejected the multi-year contract from the England Cricket Board (ECB) to play in the T20 leagues across the world. This comes after the governing body decided to introduce the multi-year contract system to negate the threat of franchise cricket.
However, the players weren’t interested in the offer as they believed that they could earn more while playing franchise cricket. The reports suggested that the ECB now will talk with players over the salaries before they sign the contracts.
ECB and the players of the England team will be having negotiations between them related to the contracts. Although players have realized that they can earn more money by playing franchise cricket, they are still willing to see what the multi-year deals will offer to them.
The reports in the Telegraph have also suggested that the ECB’s decision to keep equal fees for men’s and women’s cricketers has resulted in a cash shortage for England’s board. The decision has cost them an extra £1.5 million. Apart from this also spent chunks of money working with black and South Asian communities and state-educated children.
Recently reports emerged that various IPL franchises have approached players like Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Jofra Archer and Sam Curran for multi-year contracts. They want English players to play for their teams across the different leagues in the world.
