Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell opened up about Josh Hazlewood's comments about losing to Scotland to knock England out of the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that he received texts from England players and with the way they played against Scotland, there was a panic in the English camp.

England's qualification for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was dependent on Australia. Due to the washout and the poor performance against the Mitchell Marsh-led side, the defending champions were in a spot of bother and were on the verge of getting eliminated.

Therefore Australia defeating Scotland in the last game was a must for England to qualify. But ahead of the game, Josh Hazlewood made an interesting comment that shook many and might have created panic in the English camp as well.

Josh Hazlewood stated that Australia will be doing something that might knock England out of the T20 World Cup 2024. It raised a lot of speculations as to whether the 2021 T20 World Cup winners were planning on manipulating their game against Scotland.

In the game between Australia and Scotland, the Mitchell Marsh-led side came under pressure. They didn't look on great sorts as they dropped quite a few catches and also were below par with the bat but somehow managed to win the game, helping England qualify.

Glenn Maxwell admitted that there was a lot of chat on the ground if they were actually manipulating the result. He talked about the game and admitted that they were out of sorts but Marcus Stoinis put them in a strong position. Speaking on ESPN's 'Around the Wicket' podcast, he explained:

"Yeah, just a couple of texts here and there. It was actually quite funny. There was a lot of chat out in the ground like 'Are we doing this? Are we seriously going to let England back in?' It was a pretty interesting game. We just didn't bat well at the start. Just felt that out rhythm wasn't all out.

"When I got out, it was an interesting stage. Head's back was sort of clearing up a little bit. It could have gone either way but the Stoinis came out and absolutely pumped it. That sort of put the game beyond doubt."

I heard it was absolutely chaos - Glenn Maxwell on England's feeling

Glenn Maxwell revealed that there was a panic in the England camp when the game went down the wire. He claimed that the players in the English camp were even booking flights and canceling. He added:

"There was almost this interesting part where they dropped Tim David's catch when there were 3 required off 3. When it gets down to the last 2-3 balls, who knows what's going to happen? Luckily enough, we got over the line and luckily enough, they got through.

"But I heard it was absolutely chaos. They were in the hotel and there was a fair bit of panic. Guys booking flights and cancelling etc. Would have been fun being a fly on the wall watching that."

Australia will be next seen in action when they take on Bangladesh in a Super 8 stage game on Friday (21st June).
