England Squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Schedule 2023, Team List, Match List. England begin their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign against New Zealand on October 5 in Ahmedabad. The 2019 WC champions have almost the same core of players who played the last World Cup this time as well. The side will be led by Jos Buttler who took over captaincy from Eoin Morgan.
Jos Buttler led England to their second T20 World Cup win in Australia. The side looked in ominous form with their batters and bowlers all in great form. Buttler himself led England very well in the tournament.
England have received a major boost ahead of the World Cup with Ben Stokes coming out of his ODI retirement to play for the national team in the tournament. His return certainly bolsters the team. The 2019 player of the series, Stokes gives the squad the much-needed flexibility. He can bat anywhere from number three to seven allowing the other players to play around him.
England will be playing a four-match T20I series followed by a four-match ODI series against New Zealand heading into the World Cup. The series will allow them to finetune their final 15-member squad for the World Cup.

Openers: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow
Bairstow and Roy have formed a terrific opening combination in the last few years. They opened the batting in the last World Cup and will be opening the batting in this World Cup as well. When on song, both openers can destroy opposition bowling lineups. It will be interesting to see if they keep up to their Bazball approach in the World Cup in entirely different conditions.
Middle-Order: Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone
Root has made a comeback of sorts to white-ball cricket given the way he has played in Test matches and in the recent Hundred tournament. Malan is a good option for anchoring the innings in the middle order with Liam Livingstone, a hard-hitting option.
All-Rounders: Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali
Stokes, Curran, and Moeen Ali are all different types of all-rounders but effective in their unique way. They provide bowling options in the top six and a lot of batting options as well. The depth in the England squad in the last few years has been a key reason to their success.
Wicketkeeper-Jos Buttler (C)
Buttler will keep wickets and bat at number seven in the lineup. He can also open the batting if he wants like he does in the T20I format. The England captain can switch gears quickly which is a very important aspect of his game.
Pacers: David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Reece Topley
Willey, Woakes, Wood, and Topley can form a four-man pace attack for England in the World Cup. All of them possess a lot of experience and bring a lot of variety to the attack which will be useful in Indian conditions for the World Cup.
Spinners: Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed
Rashid will be the specialist spinner in this England lineup and will hold the key in the middle overs. He will be tasked with bowling the tough overs and he has more often than not come out triumphs. England can also include Rehan Ahmed as a backup spinner in their World Cup squad.
England squad for ICC World Cup 2023: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler (C), David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Reece Topley, Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed
