It was a batting collapse from Pakistan in front of a second-string England bowling attack. All of them have played under five ODIs or the national side but gave Babar Azam and his men a difficult time in the first ODI. Azam was dismissed for second-ball-duck in a game where he was expected to score and score big. It was a shocking performance from Pakistan which made the cricket fraternity start talking about the mercurial nature of the Men in Green.

Their batsmen did not give their bowlers enough runs to play with which saw them fail to defend the target. Meanwhile, in this article, we look at Pakistan’s playing XI for the second ODI. This is a must-win game for Pakistan to keep the series alive.

Rizwan bats with intent in the middle-order and is expected to bat at number four in the middle-order. He scored an unlucky 13 off just nine balls as Pakistan’s batting order faltered.

He is recalled into the Pakistan squad for the first time since 2016. He scored 19 off 32 balls and looked good to get a big one before his innings was cut short by a mix-up with Fakhar Zaman. He bats with an aggressive intent and all of it would be required in the second ODI by his team.

He is the vice-captain of the side. He did not have a good game in the first ODI as he went for 22 runs off his three overs and remained wicketless. He would hope that his batsmen give him enough cushion of runs to help him make an impact on the game. He scored 30 with the bat in the game.

Faheem Ashraf

Ashraf also bowled a wicketless spell giving away 33 runs of his five overs. He is a fast-bowling all-rounder but did not do much with the bat either. Ashraf has played 29 ODIs for Pakistan so far.

Afridi picked the only English wicket to fall in the first ODI. He was also the best bowler among all in that game. He needs support first from his batsmen and then from his bowlers to bring his team back in the series at Lord’s.

Hasan Ali
