England faces Scotland in the T20 World Cup 2024 fixture in Barbados on Tuesday, May 4. This is the campaign opener for both teams in the T20 World Cup. England are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup having won the title in 2022.

England vs Scotland Team Analysis

England

England have a power-packed squad available for them, Jos Buttler leads the side which has plenty of depth in batting and bowling. They are seasoned T20 cricketers having played across all T20 leagues.

The form of Buttler and Phil Salt after having performed in the recent T20 World Cup is a big plus. Ben Stokes made himself unavailable for this World Cup after playing the last T20I and ODI World Cup. Jofra Archer has also returned fully fit into the side.

Scotland

The Scotts played two warm-up games heading into the T20 World Cup. The match against Uganda was washed out while they lost their previous game against Afghanistan. Scotland failed to qualify for the main round of the last World Cup edition. This edition, given that it's a 20-team event, Scotland managed to qualify.

The side will be led by Richie Berrington. The side has plenty of players who played in the last edition of the T20 World Cup, Berrington along with the likes of George Munsey, Matthew Cross, Michael Leask, and Chris Greaves are among the most experienced players on the side.

England vs Scotland Key Factors

Pitch Conditions

Barbados has hosted over 40 T20Is. The wicket is generally dry assisting the spinners. It gets low and slow as the game progresses and hence the team batting first has the advantage. The spinners will have a say in this pitch more than the pacers. The wicket might also have some uneven bounce.

Form and Fitness

The England players are in the pink of their health in recent times. Key players have come back into the squad after getting some good rest. The fitness of the players looked good in the recent T20I series against Pakistan.

Scotland played T20I cricket against the USA, Netherlands, Ireland and the warm-up fixture against Afghanistan heading into their first game. There are no injury concerns with the team and have their full strength available.

Tactical Acumen

This is the first-ever T20I match between the two sides. England have previously played five ODIs against Scotland winning three and losing one. The Scotts can surprise the defending champions. The tactics of both captains will be an interesting observation.
