England vs Scotland Match Preview- ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Match 6

England

England are led by Jos Buttler. The side recently won a T20I series against Pakistan heading into the T20 World Cup. All the players are fit and available in the England side. Few of their batters are in prime form given their recent stint in the IPL. The return of Jofra Archer is a massive boost for the side.

Archer along with Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, Sam Curran, and Reece Toplsy gives a lot of variety in the bowling attack. Adil Rashid is the lead spinner with Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone as well.

The batters can play in different gears which makes the team a complete outfit. Interestingly, this is the first-ever T20I between the two sides. England previously played five ODIs against Scotland, winning three and losing one.

Scotland

Scotland did not qualify for the last T20 World Cup. This being a 20-team event, minnows of the cricketing world like Scotland too have managed to qualify for the mega event.

They are led by Richie Berrington. The Scotts played two warm-up games before the World Cup started. The one against Uganda was washed out and they lost to Afghanistan.

They have several players in the squad who played in the last World Cup and they have experience of playing in big events. Scotland kick off their campaign against England on June 4 followed by Namibia (June 6), Oman (June 9), and Australia (June 15).

Richie Berrington (c), Matthew Cross, Brad Currie, Chris Greaves, Oli Hairs, Jack Jarvis, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Brad Wheal

England vs Scotland Key Battles

Phil Salt vs Chris Greaves / Mark Watt

Salt recently scored 435 runs in the IPL and 45 in his last outing against Pakistan. He decimates pace and showed this recently in the IPL. He attacks spin as well but he gets out as well to that style of bowling. This is where his battle with the two spinners Greaves and Watt will be interesting.

Jos Buttler vs Chris Sole

Buttler is just a bit edgy to start against the Pacers. This is where the Scottish pacers Chris Sole and Brad Wheel and Sarif can look to dismiss him early. If he gets set, he can tear apart this bowling attack. The England skipper is a good player of spin as well.

England vs Scotland Key Players

For England, Jos ButtlerPhil Salt, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow are the key players. With the ball, Archer, Wood, and Adil Rashid will be key.

For Scotland, opener George Musey is their most experienced batter in the side along with their skipper Richie Berrington. With the ball, the pace trio of Sole, Wheel, and Sharif will be key along with their spinners Chris Greaves and Mark Watt.

England vs Scotland Weather and Pitch Report

Talking about the pitch, the track in Barbados assists the team in batting first. More than 40 matches have been played at the venue with 28 matches won by the team batting first. The pitch gets slower in the second innings and the spinners coming into the game as well.

There is a high chance of rain playing spoilsport. Chances of rain as as high as 55 percent for the match starting at 10.30 am local time. We may have a shortened game in case it's a heavy shower.

Conclusion

England are heading into this match after winning the series against Pakistan 2-0. This is a historic match given the fact that it's the first meeting between the two sides in T20Is.
