Ex-England Captain Nasser Hussain Calls For Alex Hales' Recall, Says “He Did The Crime, He Served His Time, Forgive, Move On”

Former England National Cricket Team skipper Nasser Hussain has called for the recall of the 33-year-old batter Alex Hales to the white-ball setup of the England National Cricket Team.

English cricketer Alexander Daniel Hales, who currently plays for Nottinghamshire, has played 11 Tests, 70 ODIs and 60 T20Is for The Three Lions. He last played for England in March 2019. The batter was tested positive for recreational drugs before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and following the incident, he was dropped from the team. The 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan had called the event ‘a complete breakdown in trust’.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former England skipper Hussain said that Hales, who has been in excellent form in the ongoing season of The Hundred, should receive a recall. He added that the path has become easier for the batter, given the recent retirements of former captain Morgan and star all-rounder Ben Stokes. He said:

“I try and pick people on their ability as a cricketer really. He did the crime, he served his time, forgive, move on. It’s a bit easier for him now because there is no Morgan, there is no Stokes in 50-over cricket. There are a couple of opportunities. Try and pick your best side.”

While talking about Hales, Morgan said that the quality of the 33-year-old “ has never been a question” and he is an absolute match-winner. He asserted:

“There’s one thing about Alex, his quality has never been a question. It’s whether the team would like him in the side, or captains can trust him, or the coach, or the selectors. But there’s no doubt he’s extremely destructive and a match-winner.”
