Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed the Indian Cricket Team for their excellent form and have given them an invincible status, claiming that their next goal should be to go out and win the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, as he doesn't see anyone stopping them.

India have been unbeatable in ICC tournaments; the only match they have lost in ICC tournaments over the past 2 years is the Super 8 match against South Africa in the T20 World Cup, which, though, could not jeopardize their title defense.

Following India's spectacular run, former English skipper Michael Vaughan seems to be very impressed with their dominance. He has compared them to the mighty Aussies, who once similarly dominated white-ball cricket.

Michael Vaughan belittles England and heaps praise on Australia and India

Australia, the giants of World cricket, are undoubtedly the most successful team in the history of ICC tournaments, especially considering their record in ICC World Cups. They have won six ODI World Cups, a T20 World Cup, and a couple of Champions Trophies as well, along with a WTC.

However, what's more memorable to Vaughan seems to be their unbeatable domination between 1999 and 2007, when Australia were the leading side in the world of white-ball cricket and had won three back-to-back World Cups. He has cited India's recent form as a reflection of such dominance.

However, while speaking on the Cricbuzz Live, he said that he had once referred to Darren Gough that England had won trophies in 2019 and 2022, but they have never dominated white-ball cricket like these two have.

Vaughan praises the depth of Indian cricket in recent times

Vaughan voiced his opinion about the growing depth of Indian cricket and how even their second team is equally capable of going out and winning a World Cup against the pros, if a player or two like Jasprit Bumrah is added to that squad. He said:

"I was just asking Jinx (Ajinkya Rahane), actually, the last time an Indian second team, I don't reckon they probably came second in the tournament. You look at the amount of players that are in this team, it might be a bowler or two, and Bumrah might be the difference, but if you could put Jasprit in that team, that probably could win the World Cup. The depth is just remarkable, and that's the goal that Indian cricket should set."

The English skipper also cited the role of the IPL for having shaped modern Indian cricket and giving rise to new cricketers every year, who have helped India carry forward the legacy between them.

Michael Vaughan declares India as the favourites for the 2027 ODI World Cup

While Indians themselves would be eyeing a win in the 2027 ODI World Cup, as it would mark the last time Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play an international tournament for the Men in Blue, the former English captain has backed them to win it.

"They should have won the 50-over World Cup; they couldn't. They won the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup, and now they won this. I can't see anyone stopping them in South Africa in 2027. That's going to be the goal for Indian cricket, to go and win the World Cup in 2027," Michael Vaughan declared.

It seems evident that for Gautam Gambhir and the Indian team management, their next goal is to win the 2027 ODI World Cup before they turn their heads towards the preparations for the 2028 Olympics and the ICC T20 World Cup in the same year.
