Ahead of the third and final ODI match between India and England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, the India National Cricket Team pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the series-deciding match. This is a huge setback for Shubman Gill and his side, as he has been in brilliant form since his return to ODI cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out due to a knee injury he sustained, and he did not pass the fitness test ahead of the match as well. Apart from Bumrah, India's bowling attack has failed to establish a dominant presence on this tour; now England batters will be having a sigh of relief as the star speedster is out.
Arshdeep Singh replaces Jasprit Bumrah at Lord's
During the toss, India captain Shubman Gill said that Bumrah would be out of this game and the series after he picked up a knee injury, as India made three changes, with Arshdeep Singh coming back into the side to replace the 32-year-old speedster for this game.
Apart from Bumrah, Washington Sundar was also ruled out before this game. Prince Yadav comes in for Washington Sundar, and KL Rahul is back after missing the last game due to illness, as the keeper-batter replaces Shivam Dube in the side.
BCCI statement on Jasprit Bumrah
BCCI has provided a statement on Jasprit Bumrah missing out, as they stated that the speedster suffered an injury while fielding in the 2nd ODI in Cardiff, and he had swelling on his left knee which made him out of the match.
"Jasprit Bumrah had an impact injury on his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff. He was not available for selection for the third ODI due to reactive swelling in his left knee," reads a BCCI statement.
England won the toss and opted to bat first
England captain Harry Brook won the toss and elected to bat first. They made just one change, with Josh Tongue coming back for Saqib Mahmood.
In 29 matches, India have won the toss only 4 times while losing it 25 times, since December 2023. At Lord's, all five were won by the team setting the target, post the 2019 ODI World Cup final.
Shubman Gill, after losing the toss, stated, "We were looking to bowl first. We have got three changes. Boom misses out, he's unavailable due to some knee injury. And so is Washington Sundar."
"Dube also misses out. KL comes in, Prince Yadav comes in, and Arshdeep comes back into the team. [On selecting Arshdeep Singh] We're not the one who relies on stats so much. We think he's a great bowler, and we were looking for four seamers on this ground."
