Former South African Captain Faf du Plessis has made some shocking claims in his biography “Faf: through the fire”. The batter can be seen playing in franchise leagues and is trying his best to get back into the national team.
South African Cricket Team received a heart-wrenching defeat against the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup 2022. The Proteas once again failed in crucial junctions of the match. Cricket South Africa (CSA) may have to take some tough calls if the team wants to win the 2024 edition.

Faf du Plessis on AB de Villiers
Faf in his book made a shocking claim and made interesting comments on AB de Villiers.
“Unfortunately, I said to him, this conversation came too late, and I also didn’t think it would convey the right message to the team if we included him on the eve of the squad announcement. Although the decision wasn’t mine alone to make, ultimately I had not supported AB’s inclusion at that late stage, and I had to add my voice to one of the toughest decisions made during my captaincy,” said Faf du Plessis
“I followed my heart and principles over what my head was telling me. My friendship with AB took a knock because of this… The call two days before the squad announcement, the subsequent position that it put me in as a captain and a friend, and the media reports during the tournament all introduced unnecessary tension to our relationship,” he added.
South Africa is in deep trouble
It won’t be wrong to say that the sudden retirement of AB de Villiers changed the dynamics of the team. The team hasn’t been able to find an ideal combination that can win in tough scenarios.
It would be interesting to see how AB de Villiers responds to the claims of Faf du Plessis. South Africa would be eyeing to start afresh after the debacle of the 2022 T20 WC as their next assignment is against the mighty Aussies for a 3-Test Match Series.
