Babar Azam trolled by his own cousin: Pakistan National Cricket Team have potentially been knocked out of the 2026 T20 World Cup after their loss against the England National Cricket Team on Monday. They were handed a defeat by two wickets, with Harry Brook scoring a brilliant century in the game to take his team through to the semi-final.

Pakistan has just one point from two games after one loss and one washout. After the loss, once again, Babar Azam’s batting approach in the game was once again being called out for his slow strike rate, as he has been criticised for the kind of batting approach he has taken in this tournament.

Babar Azam trolled by his family

Babar has failed to score a single fifty in this edition of the tournament. His highest score game was against the USA during the group stage game, where he scored 46 runs. Babar has scored 91 runs in six matches at an average of 22.75, which has led several former cricketers and fans to debate his role in the side.

Babar Azam has faced trolls on social media, and with a recent one coming from his own household, as former Pakistan batter, Umar Akmal, who is also a cousin of the former Pakistan captain, has taken a dig at him by posting an Instagram Story.

The latter story is interpreted by fans as a sarcastic comparison highlighting Akmal’s performances alongside Babar’s struggles against quality opponents, sparking debate on social media about internal criticism and timing amid Pakistan’s recent setbacks.

Babar has failed to deliver in big moments

The story depicts Umar Akmal and Babar Azam’s batting approach, as it takes us back to 2014 when Pakistan faced Australia, and the Men in Green were down to 25/2, and from there Umar Akmal’s side was on score of 180/5 when the batter was dismissed for the score of 94 off 54 balls. Pakistan won the game by 16 runs.

However, Pakistan were in a similar situation against England on Monday, with him there at the crease with the score being 32/2. He also shared the image of his picture when he was dismissed after scoring 25 off 24 balls with a strike rate of 104, and the score was 73/3 after 11 overs.

Babar Azam's T20 approach has been under scrutiny

The lack of intent to play big strokes by Babar has been very much visible. Babar Azam has failed to adapt to the dynamic T20 approach, and thus, he has failed to create an impact in the shortest format despite being the leading run scorer in the T20I format.

Babar's overall T20 World Cup record now stands at 640 runs in 23 matches at an average of 33.68, including five half-centuries, and has a strike rate of 111.5, which is currently lower than Mohammad Hafeez (111.8), Kumar Sangakkara (112.2), and Kane Williamson (112.5).

Pakistan will need to win their next game against Sri Lanka by a big margin and hope New Zealand lose the final game against England, making their chances of qualification a bit easier.
