First time in history: India achieve remarkable feat with victory vs Bangladesh in 1st Test

Team India has achieved a historic triumph after the victory over Bangladesh in IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai. Notably, Team India now has more Test wins than defeats in international cricket.

India crushed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the 1st Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Rohit Sharma & Co. piled up 376-10 in the 1st innings.

After a batting collapse at 144-6, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin came to the team's rescue with their 86 and 113 respectively.

Later, India bowled out Bangladesh for just 149 with a 4-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah. When Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to perform in the 2nd innings, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant slammed stunning tons to drive the scoreboard.

India declared at 287-4 and set up a mountainous total of 515 for Bangladesh. In the final innings, the visitors could only reach 234 before losing all of their wickets.

India has more wins than defeats in Test cricket

Interestingly, India has achieved an impressive record after the victory against Bangladesh. For the first time ever in Test cricket history, India has more number of wins in Test Cricket than defeats.

Team India now accounts for 179 Test wins in international cricket as compared to 178 defeats. Hence, their win margin has surpassed the loss margin. Notably, this has happened for the first time since 1932.

As per stats, Team India has played 580 Tests in international cricket. Out of these, they have won 179 games and lost 178 matches. A total of 222 games ended as draws. Team India has a win percentage of 50.13 in Test cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin wins POTM in IND vs BAN 1st Test

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant performance in IND vs BAN 1st Test. The right-handed batsman slammed a century in the 1st innings.

Later, he also grabbed a 5-wicket haul in the 2nd innings, picking a total of 6 wickets. He emerged as a champion at his home stadium in Chennai. With the victory, India also retained their peak position in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table.

India and Bangladesh are set to play a total of two games in the Bangladesh tour of India 2024. The IND vs BAN 2nd Test 2024 begins on September 27. The venue of the match is Green Park in Kanpur. India leads the series 1-0.

India and Bangladesh will also play a T20I series later. The T20I series will observe a total of three matches. Bangladesh is led by Najmal Shanto in the Test series.
