First, VVS Laxman Has To Apply For NCA Post - BCCI
The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has stated that the former Indian batsman, VVS Laxman, will have to apply for the role as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before further discussions take place.
Following Rahul Dravid‘s appointment as the head coach of the Indian team, the spot at NCA is wide open. It’s expected that the BCCI wants a former cricketer at the helm in order to progress but Laxman hasn’t applied yet.
“We will advertise for the NCA appointment. First, he (VVS) has to apply for the post,” Jay Shah told PTI after the conclusion of the BCCI’s 90th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday.
VVS Laxman has quit as the mentor of SRH
Previously, VVS Laxman was acting as the mentor for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise in the IPL. He has now resigned from that post in order to apply for the head at the NCA. The former right-handed batsman will also have to give up commentary and his stint as an analyst at Star Sports.
He cannot write columns for newspapers either to avoid a conflict of interest discussion. Laxman’s appointment was one of the points on the agenda of the AGM. Dravid also had to go through the same procedure to become the head coach of India.
As for SRH, the franchise has retained three players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik were kept by the franchise while Rashid Khan made a surprising exit after contract talks fell over.
