The year 2021 begins with hopes and aspirations for Team India. To lift the World Test Championship trophy at Lord’s in June. Also, reclaiming the prestigious T20 World Cup on home shores in November will be the main focus, as would be to continue the preparations towards 2023 ODI World Cup.

While the Indian team have never had a talent pool as wide as it is today and so would be hopeful of fulfilling their ambitions, individually, many promising cricketers will be eyeing their opportunities across formats and through performances, try and strengthen their case for a regular place in the XI.

Five Players Who Could Make A Fortune For Themselves In Team India In 2021:

5. Ishan Kishan

Because of that boyish face, we often tend to forget how much Ishan Kishan has already seen in his young career. From captaining the Indian U-19 team at the Junior World Cup in 2016 to playing the role of the premier batsman for Jharkhand domestically to being an integral member of a five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) side in the Indian Premier League, the 22-year-old isn’t short of talent and experience.

Kishan hasn’t represented India. In the last IPL seemed hungrier to reach the pinnacle, scoring 516 runs at a brilliant strike-rate of 145.76. The explosive batsman and improving wicketkeeper will definitely be in the selectors’ radar for the T20 World Cup.

4. T Natarajan

After impressing one and all with pinpoint yorkers at the death in IPL 2020 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), left-arm pacer T Natarajan got on the plane to Australia with the senior Indian team as a net bowler. As the fortunes would have it, the Tamil Nadu quick made his ODI and T20I debut down under and is also in contention for a maiden Test call-up now.

Something he wouldn’t have imagined three months ago. But now having reached there, the 29-year-old wouldn’t want to let his opportunity go. He is expected to be given a rope with the side in the coming months. Especially, in the white-ball versions and definitely has the skill to be able to make those chances count for himself.

3. Suryakumar Yadav

480 runs with an astonishing strike-rate of 145.01 while maintaining brilliant consistency, averaging 40.00 across 16 innings. Suryakumar Yadav had one of the finest IPL seasons among middle-order batsmen in the league’s history for Mumbai Indians (MI) last year. Yet, the elegant right-hand batsman had to face the disappointment of one more rejection on the selection date for India’s full tour of Australia.

But a determined Suryakumar is expected to keep banging the selectors’ door hard in the coming months. He can do that by performing well in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament preceding another crucial IPL campaign in April-May. Performances in the difficult middle-order duties should definitely bring Suryakumar his just rewards, including the elusive India cap.

2. Washington Sundar

Sundar may have not had the best of T20I series in Australia, but the incisive off-spinner is definitely a very promising bowler. As shown in the IPL 2020 where Sundar’s accuracy and variations in the powerplay and middle-overs were key to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally sneaking through to the play-offs, the youngster is very much capable of handling pressure and delivering such performances even at the highest level for India.

He has already played 26 T20Is for the country and bowled with an excellent economy rate of 6.95. If Sundar can stamp his authority against a threatening England batting unit when they arrive here in March, he will not only enhance his reputation but also be prime to play the T20 World Cup.

1. Shubman Gill

After making a fruitful debut by playing his part in India’s emphatic victory in the Boxing Day Test against Australia, Shubman Gill will not only be eyeing consistency in the whites for a guaranteed place in the side but also wish to resurrect himself in the limited-overs pecking order.

The prodigiously talented right-hand batsman was first given the nod by the national selectors back in January 2019 on the tour of New Zealand. But two failures later, he was dropped from the squad. Now back in the reckoning, Gill would want the decision-makers to revisit their call and give him a push in the ODIs. Apart from that, the young gun will hope to also expand his range in the shortest format via the IPL 2021. He would also like to enter the T20I set-up for India as well.
