Former India opener, Aakash Chopra opines that the fitness and form of India’s two premier pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, is imperative going into the T20 World Cup later this year at home.
While Bumrah has rarely had off-days with the ball and also hasn’t had any major issues. On the other hand, his bowling partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had to deal with multiple injuries in the past few years, especially in the last year – the India-England T20I series was his first international outing since December 2019.
“One hundred percent. If India has to win the 2021 World Cup, it is necessary for Bumrah and Bhuvi to do well. Bumrah is evergreen, he did not have any injury issue. He has been bowling well and his workload is being managed,” Aakash Chopra said while speaking with Star Sports.
We can say that Bhuvi is back: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra is happy to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar not only back in the Indian team but also delivering terrifically with the ball. The pacer was Man of the Match in the 5th T20I for his superb bowling figures of 2/15 in a high-scoring encounter.
Kumar dismissed two key batsman – Jason Roy and Jos Buttler – and was led the charge of India’s comeback with the ball after a 130-run stand between Buttler and Dawid Malan.
“We were waiting eagerly when Bhuvi will come, the ball will swing and he will take the wickets. He might have taken only four wickets in the series, today he took two wickets but his bowling was sensational and we can say that Bhuvi is back,” the former opener added.
