Jofra Archer was not one of the players retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 auction on December 19. The franchise released as many as 11 players as they tried to retain their core of players.

Mumbai Indians roped in Jofra Archer for INR 8 crore. The tall pacer did not play any match in the 2022 season. He came back in the IPL 2023 season playing just five matches and picking up just two wickets at an average of 95.00, a strike rate of 60, and an economy rate of 10.

His elbow injury problems resurfaced once again as he was ruled out of the tournament and eventually went on to miss the Ashes 2023 followed by the World Cup campaign. The team also failed to get fit in time for the World Cup as his problems mounted.

Archer played his last Test in 2021 against India. His last ODI for England was against Bangladesh earlier this year in March while his last T20I was also against Bangladesh earlier this year.

The call to release Arher was probably due to his unavailability for this year’s tournament as he is continuing to recover from his elbow injury which continues to hamper his international and franchise career.

Alongside Archer, the other names released by Mumbai Indians are Mohd. Arshad Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Hrithik Shokeen, Raghav Goyal, Tristan Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Chris Jordan, Sandeep Warrier.

Twitter Reacts As Mumbai Indians Release Jofra Archer

The franchise has released a lot of Indian and overseas names perhaps looking to rebuild the entire squad as they look to start a new cycle in the IPL. Reports of Hardik Pandya’s alleged move to Mumbai Indians were also shunted when Gujarat Titans revealed that they are not letting their skipper go.

Fans meanwhile reacted to Hardik’s rumored transfer news as a PR move to keep the Indian fans digressed from India’s shocking loss to Australia in the World Cup final last week.
