India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli talked about Glenn Maxwell's gigantic knock of unbeaten 201 in the ICC World Cup 2023 clash against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. He revealed that he texted the all-rounder after that, saying that he was a freak and a madman.
Almost exactly one year ago today, Glenn Maxwell arguably played the best knock ever in the history of the ODIs. The all-rounder came up with the brutal effort with the bat despite being down with severe cramps in the heat of Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.
Chasing the target of 292 runs, the Australia National Cricket Team were left tottering at 91/7 and it was almost certain that they would lose the game easily. However, it was Glenn Maxwell who came up as an obstacle for the Afghanistan National Cricket Team and snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat.
Glenn Maxwell, who couldn't even stand properly on his legs due to cramps, played his best innings in ODIs. Without the footwork, the all-rounder slammed big sixes and ended up with an innings of 201* to take his side to a three-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

While recalling Glennll's gigantic knock, Virat Kohli had written how the whole world witnessed the greatness of the Australia all-rounder, saying that it was a compelling drama. He mentioned that only Maxwell could've done what he did and getting 200 was a perfect way to end the unparalleled knock.
"The whole cricket world was glued to those final stages as he kept bombing sixes on one leg without a helmet too. Going down time and again with cramps, limping for singles - it was compelling drama, and so was Maxi.
"When it was over, I texted him along those lines: that he is a freak and a madman. In my view, he is the only player in the world capable of doing what he did. Concluding with such a milestone was perfect, capping an unparalleled knock," Glenn Maxwell revealed Virat Kohli's words in his autobiography.
I said with half seriously that with Maxi there, anything could happen - Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli further wrote that although Afghanistan spinners were taking the game he always had a belief that anything could happen till Glenn Maxwell was at the crease. He revealed that when the all-rounder slammed a century, he knew that Australia would win, but he never imagined the batter hitting a double ton as it was unbelievable. He added:
"The game was moving so quickly in Afghanistan's direction and knowing their spinners, it would get no easier. Checking in as he and Pat Cummins rebuilt, I said with half seriously that with Maxi there, anything could happen.
"By the time he reached his century, I genuinely thought he was going to win it. I've seen what it's like when Maxi gets hold of a team and it felt like one of those nights. Yet to think he would end up with a double-century was another layer of unbelievable."
I instinctively stuck up a hand and blocked it - Virat Kohli reveals his banter with Glenn Maxwell
Virat Kohli also talked about the banter he and Maxwell shared during the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He also opened about up their relationship and while talking about the same, he explained:
"Twelve days later, in the final, when Maxi threw the ball back in, I instinctively stuck up a hand and blocked it. Earlier in our careers, with so much on the line, you can guarantee there would have been an altercation. But now? We pretended to fight for a second before starting to laugh. That's exactly as it should be - competitive but respectful."
