IPL 2024 runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) under Pat Cummins, made a strong performance in IPL 2024. The players understood their roles very well and played on the set template of the team.

SRH owner, Kavya Maran came up with a few strong suggestions in the meeting between the IPL franchise and the BCCI on the way ahead for IPL 2024.

She strongly protested against the mega auctions and instead said that the BCCI might keep mini auctions every year.

Two other recommendations from her were to allow the franchises at least seven to eight retentions or RTM cards. She said that the franchises invest a lot of money and time to build a squad and the mega auctions disrupt the continuity.

The second major suggestion from her was that BCCI should ban overseas players for two years if they pull out from the season after enrolling themselves for the auction.

Over the years, several overseas players have pulled out fro the tournament after enrolling themselves for the auction.

This last-minute pullout has forced the franchises to change their original plan and name inferior replacements as well.

It has forced the franchises to change the team combinations as well. In this article, we look at three overseas players Sunrisers Hyderabad might release ahead of IPL 2025.

Overseas Players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Wanindu Hasaranga

The former Sri Lankan skipper was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 1.5 crores in IPL 2024. This was after he was paid 10 crores by RCB in IPL 2022 and 2023.

RCB released him ahead of the mini-auction only for Hyderabad to pick him up and he did not show up for the franchise that season. It was due to him pulling out that the SRH co-owner requested the BCCI to ban overseas players for two years.

Sri Lanka did not even win one game under his captaincy in T20 World Cup 2025. He has not been in good form with bat and ball in the series against India as well.

With recent form playing a key role for overseas players Hasaranga's recent struggles with batt and ball might work against him.

Glenn Phillips

Phillips was hardly required by SRH last season. Hence he might be released as it would free up some cash for the Sunrisers Hyderabad as they look to rebuild their squad.

Phillips has played just five matches for the franchise scoring 39 runs with a best of 25 off 7 against his former franchise Rajasthan Royals. He is a brilliant fielder to boost his batting and keeping credentials.

Vijayakanth Viyaskanth

The Lankan leg spinner might be the third player SRH might release ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. He replaced Wanindu Hasaranga in the squad and played just three games last year picking up just one wicket conceding 86 runs in total.

He bowled with an economy of 8.6. He made his IPL debut against LSG and played his last game against KKR which was Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024.
