Gautam Gambhir Attacks Mohammad Kaif, Irfan Pathan On World Cup Statements

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has slammed those who have called India the best team of the recently concluded World Cup despite their loss in the final. India entered the final as firm favorites after playing a highly-entertaining and aggressive brand of cricket in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led side won all of its league games before thrashing New Zealand by 70 runs in the semifinal. The Men in Blue were widely expected to beat Australia in the title decider.
However, the Pat Cummins-led side stunned their fancied hosts and thrashed them by 6 wickets to guide Australia to a record-extending sixth World Cup title. The team from Down Under thoroughly downplayed Team India to clinch the title. Bowling first, Australia bowled out India for a modest total of 240 runs before chasing it down in 43 overs.
Despite the loss in the final, several experts have demeaned Australia’s triumph by calling India the best team of the tournament. Former India cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Irfan Pathan have openly called India the best team of the tournament.
Gautam Gambhir against the best tag for Team India:
While Gautam Gambhir has praised Team India for their performance in the World Cup, he has said that the winning team should be called the best.
“This is a wrong statement. I think the best team has gone on to win the World Cup, as simple as it can get,” said Gautam Gambhir when asked about others calling India the best team of the tournament.
“India managed to play absolutely fabulously well, played some fantastic cricket, and ultimately, whoever wins the World Cup is the best team.
“I am very clear about it. Lot of people have spoken about it that the best team hasn’t won the World Cup. I don’t think so. That’s a very bizarre statement,” added Gautam Gambhir.

Earlier, Australia opener David Warner had also expressed his disappointment over Kaif’s comment. Meanwhile, India and Australia are currently involved in a five-match T20I series. The Men in Blue are leading the series after winning the first two games.
