India spinner Ravi Bishnoi has opened up on the rapport he shares with the newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir. While most of the Indian players are playing under Gambhir's coaching for the first time in their careers, the leg-spinner is not one of them.

He and the former India spinner worked together for two years at Lucknow Super Giants. Gambhir was the mentor of the Lucknow-based outfit in IPL 2022 and 2023 when Ravi Bishnoi led the team's spin attack. During his time with the franchise, Gambhir backed the young spinner and it looks like the situation won't change much during his tenure as the India head coach as well.

Ravi Bishnoi played in the first two games of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka and is expected to play the final match as well. On Sunday (July 28), he impressed with the ball as India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets (DLS method) to clinch the series with a match to go. The right-arm spinner picked up 3 wickets for 26 runs and was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Ravi Bishnoi on working with Gautam Gambhir:

Speaking at the end of the game, Ravi Bishnoi opened up on the kind of bond he shares with Gautam Gambhir. The Indian youngster said that he shares a good bond with Gambhir and said that the new head coach has advised him to stick to his strength.

"I am sharing a great bond with Gautam Gambhir as he has been with LSG for two years. He has not asked me to change anything as such. He has told me to do what I am doing currently. His advice was useful to me earlier as well, and now too," said Bishnoi.

He further heaped praise on new captain Suryakumar Yadav as well as Shubman Gill who led the Indian team during the series against Zimbabwe earlier this month. Bishnoi said that Suryakumar has been doing great captaincy and stated that the new captain has backed him so far.

"Suryakumar is doing great captaincy. I have played under him during the Australia series as well. He has been good. Shubman Gill's captaincy was also great. In Zimbabwe, he also did great as a captain. They always back me and as a bowler, you cannot ask for anything more than this when the captain backs you. Suryakumar and Shubman have both backed me," said Bishnoi.

Meanwhile, the third T20I is scheduled to be played on Tuesday (July 30). After the conclusion of the T20Is, India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three ODIs against each other.
