The Indian team's support staff, led by Gautam Gambhir, has split into two groups to manage preparations for both the T20I and ODI squads. One group has travelled to Southampton for the fifth and final T20I match, while the other has headed to Birmingham to supervise training ahead of the upcoming ODI series.

India, led by Shreyas Iyer, are trailing the five-match T20I series 0-3 after suffering a nine-wicket defeat to England in Bristol on July 9, 2026. Shubman Gill will lead the Indian team during the three-match ODI series, which begins at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by matches in Cardiff on July 16 and Lord's on July 19.

Gautam Gambhir-led India Support Staff Split Into Two Groups Ahead of ODI Series

According to updates shared on social media by RevSportz Global and sports journalist Ankan Kar, the Gautam Gambhir-led Indian support staff split into two groups in Bristol. Two team buses transported the separate groups to Southampton and Birmingham for their respective assignments.

One group travelled to Southampton with the remaining T20I squad for the fifth and final match against England. The second group, including fielding coach T Dilip, spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, and throwdown specialist Daya, headed to Birmingham to begin preparations for the ODI series.

India's ODI training camp is scheduled to begin at Edgbaston on Saturday, with at least seven players expected to attend the first practice session. The early split allows the team management to focus on ODI preparations while the T20I squad completes the final match of the tour.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill Train Ahead of ODI Series

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill arrived early in England to prepare for the ODI series. Rohit trained at local club facilities in Berkshire and London to get used to the conditions. He also faced young local club bowlers during his practice sessions.

Virat Kohli is set to return to international cricket for the first time since the IPL 2026 final, where he suffered a hamstring injury. After receiving fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy in late June, Kohli trained regularly at Lord's ahead of the ODI series.

India captain Shubman Gill also completed several individual training sessions at local grounds over the past week. During his break, Gill attended the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and watched the Wimbledon men's singles semifinal between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic from the Royal Box.

Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul Join ODI Squad in Birmingham

India's ODI squad received a major boost on Friday as Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, and KL Rahul arrived in Birmingham. The four players will join the squad immediately and take part in the three scheduled practice sessions at Edgbaston ahead of the opening ODI against England.

The ODI preparations come after a difficult T20I series under new captain Shreyas Iyer, who replaced Suryakumar Yadav as skipper. The team management also faced criticism after leaving out Sanju Samson, despite his Player of the Tournament performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup, following low scores.

After the England tour, the BCCI has planned to rest head coach Gautam Gambhir during India's tour of Zimbabwe. National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman will take charge of the team for the three-match T20I series before leading another Indian squad at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
